Limiting Power as the Path to Peace

I recently had the honor of appearing on AntiWar Radio with Scott Horton in my role with the Tenth Amendment Center.  Here’s the overview:

Michael Boldin of the 10th Amendment Center discusses how the doctrine of enumerated powers has become quaint, how the Constitution provides persuasive talking points for a strictly limited government for those otherwise undisposed, why activist priorities should be on limiting federal power as it is the most expansive and potentially destructive and how the states are, in some cases, resisting federal laws and asserting their own.

Wisconsin AB203: The National Guard and the Constitution

Cross-posted from the Tenth Amendment Center

Under the radar in most spheres until now, Wisconsin Assembly Bill 203 (introduced in April, 2009) seeks to restore a Constitutional balance to the common practice of federalizing the national guard. Continue reading →

Populist Irritation vs Populist Rage

Rex Huppke at the Chicago Tribune kindly asked me to answer a few questions for his latest article, “Populist Irritation Doesn’t Have the Same Ring as Populist Rage” – I think it’s a good satirical look at the state of politics in America….more of the same, and more of the same.

Here’s an excerpt: Continue reading →

The War on Drugs is a War on You

The drug war is based on a repugnant assertion: that you do not have ownership over your own body; that you don’t have the right to decide what you’ll do with your body, with your property and with your life. The position of the drug warriors is that you should be in jail if you decide to do something with your body that they don’t approve of. FULL ARTICLE

More of the Same?

This is what I hear when as I listen to Barack Obama talk about his economic recovery plan:

Debt is what drives our economy, and too much debt has caused a lot of problems.  So, to solve this crisis, we need to make sure that you start taking on even more debt.

Yup, more debt is what he wants…more debt for you and me…to buy more stuff that we just don’t need.  We don’t need more cars, or more houses, or more plasma tv’s.  We’ve got plenty of that stuff already!

Makes me think of a short video from a couple years ago, “The Story of Stuff”

Chalmers Johnson: Oil, Blowback, and War

Wondered why the Middle East hates us? From the 2005 documentary, “Why We Fight,” Chalmers Johnson talks about the United States’ involvement in the Middle East over the years and the blowback that has resulted from the US’ actions.

Many are completely unaware of the United State’s involvement overseas in the past; however, the US has a long history of being deeply involved in Middle Eastern affairs. Continue reading →

Where Does Your Bank Stand?

These days, it just might be a good idea to have as good as grasp as possible on your bank’s financial health.  I’m in the process of looking for a replacement for the criminal CitiBank – as I have no interest in doing business with a company that’s happy to take stolen money/taxes to keep their unsound company afloat.

Chris Brunner over at LewRockwell.com put together an impressive list of banks – and their health.  As he said in his post, I don’t think you’ll see a list like this anywhere…the FDIC and the banks themselves have a vested interest in keeping this kind of information from you. Continue reading →

The Recession is Going to be Painful

The recession, which has barely gotten underway, is going to hurt.  Period.

And, as Peter Schiff argues in the WSJ, there’s no free pass to get out of this one – “There’s No Pain-Free Cure for RecessionContinue reading →

Loving Government. No Matter What

Sometimes it seems like politicians can do virtually anything and get away with it.  Take Josef Stalin, for example.

Tens of millions of people were murdered by his regime, but yet, he was voted Russia’s third most popular historical figure in a nationwide poll that ended on Sunday.

I wonder, will Americans consider the murderer Bush to be their 3rd greatest leader in 2070?  The way the public school system indoctrinates our children to love the government and worship political leaders, I wouldn’t find it too surprising.
