Unfortunately, July 4th has become a day of deceit.
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress formally declared its independence from Great Britain. Thirteen years later, after a difficult war to secure that independence, the new country was open for business.
It was truly unique — the first nation in all of history in which the individual was considered more important than the government, and the government was tied down by a written Constitution.
It was the one nation where you could live your life secure in the knowledge that no one would ask for your papers, where you weren’t identified by a number, and where the government wouldn’t extort a percentage of your income as the price of holding a job.
And so each year July 4th has been a commemoration of the freest country in history.
But the America that’s celebrated no longer exists.

I've always found Harry Browne's writing to be quite inspirational for me. Thought this was a powerful statement of where this country should be – a land of liberty – which is far from where it is today…..endless war, violations of liberty and the like..
Harry makes quite a few good points in his critique of the way our country has developed in the ast few decades, especially since WWII. But, I wonder what his thinking is about the reasons why the so-called "liberal establishment" seems to have followed its own version of centralizing power, just as the "conservative establishment" has done when it is in office. One possible place to look is at the fact that the formal US government has been in a death struggle with the informal government — a cabal of the richest and most powerful individuals who want to write the rules for the rest of us as much as do the politicians.

Shrinkwrapper . I agree. I feel that we have fallen under the thumb of what I call a Shadow Government. A Government behind the scenes allied with cousins around the world who strive for one world government with the rich and powerful – the elite, being the rulers.
Their rule being enabled by Financial strength. And highly encouraged by our dysfunctional two party system.
Awareness , of a problem; and confessing reality and truth are the first steps to change : Action in organized unity is always the solution and final step.
You'd like to see a giant, idolatrous monolith build in the likeness of Jesus Christ?

I fear the "death struggle" was lost quite a while ago. The cabal owns both "parties" and simply animates the corpse to accomplish its ends while hiding its own existence and reaping the final profits. Eventually, the corpse will be abandoned to rot in peace as they move on to new projects.
Most people are either not smart enough, or simply refuse to believe that the "one world government" is a global conspiracy, being perpetrated by the huge investment banker illuminaties. Its all a major power grab at the expense of us, the american people/taxpayer.
Actually at the expense of the people of the world.
