The irony regarding conspiracy theories is that, for the most part, they do have more than a grain of truth in each of them. What comes to mind is the 1950s film Invasion of The Body Snatchers. Who could forget Kevin McCarthy running up the interstate, sweat pouring from his brow, screaming ‘They’re here!’
Of course, that film was supposed to be about the ‘invasion’ of the Commies , pods that would take over our very souls….. Leaving us with no emotions, no character…. All of us becoming one big nation of nothingness. Yet, as dear old Kevin ran up that interstate, and another truckload of pods passed him by, few if any would believe him. He was…… A …… Conspiracy nut!
Well, another set of pods landed in America….. Years and years ago. If one would read Christopher Simpson’s Blowback , one would learn about ‘Operation Paperclip.’ Briefly, the United States , soon after the last battles of WW2, brought into America ( in some instances, illegally ) many Nazi scientists and intelligence officials. They felt that this planet was replete with masses of humanity fit only for service to the elites; bottom feeders with no destiny but to be become serfs or even slaves to the 1% or 2 % of the population that would rule. These former Nazis went on to help advance our weaponry, our space travel, our covert intelligence ( CIA, NSA amongst others ) and even our foreign policy decisions. After all, we had the bogeyman lurking out there in the form of Kevin McCarthy’s Pods, ready to paint America Red.
That was 50 some odd years ago. You can find countless well researched investigative books and articles on how this Storm trooper mindset has inculcated America.
Look around you. Our nation is in the grips of another Great Depression, not seen for over 70 years. Oh yes, they will blame it solely on the Wall Street scam artists and the sub prime con jobbers. Look beyond that if you will.
Remember the words that a republican conservative president used to warn us in 1961: Military Industrial Complex. A system, full of ex Nazis and , more tragically, Nazi sympathizers , that has induced every Congress and every president…. Including Eisenhower….. To spend a ( much too great ) % of our federal budget on weapons systems and a War Economy.
Create an enemy and then spend spend spend to defend against him.
Mark Twain must have been clairvoyant , because almost 100 years ago he wrote:
“Next, the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience- soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them. Thus he will, by and by , convince himself that the war is JUST, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self- deception. ”
We know , from even the high tech films we see, that our government has the most elaborate satellite spy technology that can , at any time chosen, focus in on you and me taking out the garbage. It could even tell them what was in the pail for goodness sakes! Yet, the world’s number one bogeyman of the moment, Mr. Osama Bin Laden, him we still cannot track. Why? You know why. The bogeyman can only scare the little kiddies if he is still out there….. Somewhere.
Let’s listen to Mr. Hermann Goering, number two man under Adolf Hitler:
“It is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, a fascist dictatorship or even a parliament. The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and for exposing the country to danger. ”
So, the Bush/ Cheney cabal created a phony war on Iraq, over dramatized this so called War On Terror , and sunk almost one trillion ( that’s one thousand billion ) dollars of our tax money into the bottomless pit.
To date, America has over 750 military bases in over 100 countries! Anyone wish to know why the ‘man and woman on the street’ worldwide has no use for us?
How about every nation that has American military installations hold a referendum? Allow the populace to vote as to whether they want foreign military bases on their sovereign land. Cut and dry, vote and decide. Isn’t that what Bush and his crew meant by ‘bringing democracy to (enter country here)?’
If we study the history of Germany under the Nazi regime, we find many similarities to our own current state. One of the most frightening things is the SS , and its earlier counterpart, the SD. These were private armed groups that did the bidding of Hitler and his gang.
The only thing that can stop this trend is for the good folks throughout America to ….. Wake up! Speak out against this overemphasis on the Military Industrial Complex. Read the investigative books on how this all is going down, and has gone down. Study the Nazi movement in Germany, from the mid 1920s right through its demise in ‘45.
Most importantly, get educated and get involved. Remember what Plato said: “How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don’t think!”

A lot of writers fear making the nazi germany/us empire connection – because they get attacked right off the bat as being ’sensantional’
But what I find truly sensational is the fear of recognizing the similarities. Phil – thanks for the courage you’ve shown in speaking the truth once again.
Well, I don’t see Americans burning any ethnic groups in ovens, but a lot of the early nazi stuff is quite “normal” these days. Pretty scary stuff.
Phil. You were to the point and with clarity. Just think of the use of the “Conspiracy Nut” defense that was thrown up by the Bush Administration. Torture is a good one to recall.
Remember “We don’t torture.”?
How about “Support the troops”? Do you recall that if you were against the Iraq war you didn’t “Support the Troops”?
I suppose the survivors of over 4,200 soldiers would have hoped that we would have brought them home without a war to show our real support.
And think of the denigration of Cindy Sheehan.
And even today, there are those ( according to a recent poll ) 54% of people who called themselves Christian that said torture was AOK.
There are some sick puppies out there. But not necessarily “Conspiracy Nuts”.
How odd that people are always referred to as a conspiracy nut when they claim the government is doing something evil. Maybe people can’t accept that fact yet. Took me a while, I know.
I have to chuckle a bit. I’ve been writing the same thing since 2000. Was told I was “nuts” or had “gone over the wall’”
One commenter on an article asked me how dare I compare Bush’s government with Hitler’s. “Why Hitler killed millions of people and enslaved millions of others!”
My answer to that was, when Hitler was getting his start in the 30’s, only a handful had been killed. It took time to ramp up to wholesale genocide. In 2000, I could see Nazi Germany being recreated here and I screamed bloody murder about it.
Well, the progression has continued, the little wars for our protection, the concentration camps, more surveillance, the combat brigades being trained in suppressing civil disorder, the many executive orders awaiting signatures to turn us into what may be one of the most repressive police states the world has ever seen.
From being Bushwhacked to the new Obamanation, dedicated to “change,” I see little improvement. Obama is reverting ever more closely to the Cheney/Bush horror that America had become, and which people had hoped to have reversed by the new crew.
What “new crew?” Obama chose (or had chosen for him) as his advisors and cabinet the same old retreads that have been robbing and killing us by inches for the past few decades. In the Obamanation, the incredibly rich get richer and the people are approaching serfdom. Goldman Sachs just reported the most profitable quarter in their history. 1.8 billion dollars! There you have it, our taxes, given to the banksters by the government to help them avoid a financial disaster results in the biggest profit in their history! Think about it. Hitler gave the Junkers free reign, unlimited profits, and they supported him with money and influence. He told the Officer Corps that the Wehrmacht would be rebuilt into the greatest military in the world, and they supported him wholeheartedly.
In Germany, unions were disbanded, pension plans and health care monies were given back to the industrialists to use as they wished.
Hitler promised a job for every workman. They supported him, then found that the jobs were whatever the government told them to do, at bare subsistance wages, and they were expected to donate a llot of that to the Nazi party. There was no collective bargaining and questioning the governent was a quick ticket to a concentration camp, or worse.
I could go on and on, but the facts are there. Read your history books, but not the revisionist crap that has come out in the past eight or ten years. Just remember what Goebbels said:
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
Joseph Goebbels
29 October 1897 – 1 May 1945
i appreciate what each of the commentors have stated. my only ‘ plea ‘ is that all Americans of good conscience get off their duffs and begin street corner protests, or protests outside the local offices of their congressperson.
anything else short of that is just that….. we , the people who work the jobs, pay the majority of taxes ( gasoline, sales tax, payroll tax etc ) and suffer the most, we need to connect spiritually with each other, forgetting political party demarcations and affiliations. this is why , when i make up signs for protest, i am careful as to what i use. for example, to say the words ‘ Working Class ‘ is a no no, because the media has made it to mean being a communist or anarchist. so i use the phrase ‘ 9 to 5 Americans ‘ instead.
folks reading this, go and find a street corner in a busy intersection of town, and begin a weekly one hour protest for the issue dear to your heart.
Phil – I’m definitely with you in spirit – even if I’m not able to be there next to you. When I protest, I’ll keep your thoughts in mind. I do wonder, however, will there ever come a time when it’ll be right to switch from protest to outright resistance, or better yet, non-participation? I mean things like refusing to serve in the military, refusing to pay the taxes, and the like…
dear dave,
any sort of ‘ non violent ‘ protest is powerful. it is just that to ‘ rally the public ‘ one needs to be in the public eye.
