The Endless War

The Iraqi war was brought against an innocent people who had nothing to do with 9/11, the war was unnecessary to effect regime change, it was ginned up by lies of those who sought a war to open a new profit line, and it is just one of the seven wars that was planned in the early ninety’s, to aid the American Neo-Con vision of Empire in the Middle East. The U.S. military has absolutely no right, whether legal or moral, to be killing people who live in Iraq.  It has no right to even be in Iraq.  Why is this? Because neither the Iraqi government nor the Iraqi people ever attacked the United States.  This fact makes the war in Iraq an optional one, not a necessary one.

To reiterate what should be obvious, the fact that the U.S. was attacked in 2001 does not give this country the right to attack and kill people who had nothing to do with those crimes.  It is morally acceptable to go after criminals, but it is a crime to kill their families, their friends, their neighbors, or anyone else not criminally complicit.

Most hated status might be an understatement.

Josh and Mike, I think the most telling of all the events preceding this war was the lies to the American people given by Bush, Cheney, Colin Powell, and the complicit media.

They knew better.

Another worrisome thing is that the day after 9/11 a new agency was formed by Bush to looked for items that could be used to blame Iraq for the attack on the twin towers.

We have been morally bankrupt as a nation for a long while now. It is only now bubbling up to the top for all to see.

Yes Robert, above I alluded to a group formed by Cheney or Rumsfeld on 9/12 to find ways to blame Iraq.  I don’t remember the name of the group ( its been some time ago now) but I will look it up and give a link some time in the future or maybe write an article on it.  The name of the Agency has changed a couple of times but the deal was to cherry pick intelligence and foster guilt on Iraq.  This would later be used as the “Rationale” for going to War.

This bunch Bush, Cheney, Etal definitely meet the definition  of war criminals and therefore guilty of Crimes against Humanity.

The way I see it, the war on Iraq started in 1991, died down a little, but was waged by Clinton too.  You know, over 500,000 children were killed as a result of the US-led embargo (which is an act of war) on Iraq in the 90’s.

And it goes on still today.

Allen, so true.

Anyone who has read about what started Gulf War I and the April Glaspie deal, knows what double dealing is and what started Gulf War I.

As to the Children, one Christmas night Uncle Glynn and I were outside in the cold looking at splendid Milky display.  I asked Uncle Glynn if he knew how many stars the human eye could discern.  He guessed it might be a hundred thousand or so.

I told him “Uncle Glynn, the human eye can see upwards of around 300,000 stars, but Uncle Glynn I said , look at those stars.  If you could see every one and if everyone stood for a child of Iraq that we had caused the death of ,  there would be almost twice as many dead Iraqi children as you can see in this sky tonight.

I saw tears in his eyes.

Dear Cliff you sir are as the brits say “spot on”…with you article…but as a very poor student of history…I do recall hearing my grand parents who ( one from NO.Ireland, and the other eastern poland) of how terrible peol;le were to one another as a whole…not just national or religious hatred & bigotry, but down right hatered…and this was just before they immigrated here to the usa in the late 1880’s…so and while what you say is sadly all too true…mankind only has been at peace with it’s self when it wants to be…As mankind has been for centuries past, cruel, and inhumane to it’s fellow man…i guess the question is or ought to be when will it end ? Can it ever end ?

The greatest source of inhumanity, all through history, has been governments.  Average people do awful things, but average people, without the force of government - don’t go around invading countries, or killing millions.  Even slavery couldn’t have lasted as long as it did in the US without federal laws that kept it in place.

What Government has given us from the bad side is the ability to kill each other more efficiently.  On the other hand from the good side Government has given us the potential to end wars and injustice.  So we seem to looking at a Hobson’s Choice, meaning really we only have one choice concerning the Government.

We need to control our Government.

As to Ireland and Poland, I have ancestors from both cultures.

#11 Spoonerite on 03.25.09 at 8:41 pm

If government have somehow given us the ability to end wars that IT, in fact, started, how can that be considered a good thing?

If I break someone’s leg as a malicious act, then I offer to pay to fix it, am I a hero?

#12 Cliff Carson on 03.26.09 at 4:01 am

Spooner, what I wrote is somewhat murky.  Sometimes when I write something I know what I wanted to say, but it can be read another way.

When I said “Government has given us………………..”
what I mean is the “Ideal” of Government has given us the ability to do certain things.   So the Ideal of government has given us the ability to have good Governance and at the same time, this Ideal has given us the ability to suffer us bad Governance.

What we will have is actually up to the people.  It is up to us to force Governance that we would choose to have.

We do have the ability to force our Government to stop wars they shouldn’t have started.  But will we?

As to the man breaking the leg.  What if instead we use the old saw ” Bush protected us from Terrorism”, the question is what if the Terrorism was initiated because of his actions?  Then would he be a hero if he prevented the terrorism that he started?

You have great points Spooner.

I think the problem with America right now is that we have a large number of people who will support the guy that is at the head of their Party no matter the depravity that ensues from his despotism.  And these people do it because he is the head of their Party.  They convince themselves that he is something he is not, the great protector.

Reminds me of that old joke where the Husband is caught by his wife in a compromising position with another woman, and his defense is ” Are you going to believe me, your loving Husband, or are you going to believe your lying eyes?”

Wow, awesome comments here.  Cliff, I really like the thins you were pointing out in #12.

Most importantly – what if he is the cause of the terrorism?  Exactly right.  How can we look to Bush or Obama, or even the federal government in general to deal with terrorism when most of it is a result of US foreign policy meddling for decades.   Think blowback.

#14 Cliff Carson on 03.26.09 at 9:53 pm

Right Dave.  This just didn’t start a day or two ago.  The influence that business has over Government is astounding.  Most wars are brought about for business purposes.

I asked a guy one time if he knew why there were countries known as Banana Republics.  He knew there was such and was under the impression that it was because they had a dictator for awhile and the that dictator would be overthrown and a new cycle would start.

I told him he was correct , that was the popular understanding, but that they were really called Banana Republics because originally the Governments were overthrow by the United States to help United Fruit Company  become the big fish in the Banana growing countries.

One side note.  During the run up for the Campaign, I kept reminding the voters that one of McCain’s closest Campaign officers and his biggest contributor was once head of United Fruit and had been fined #25 million for fronting an Arms dealership to arm the AUC, an enemy of FARC and the Government of Colombia.

FARC runs the Columbian Drug trade and AUC wants to supersede them in that endeavor.    McCain’s campaingn staff was made up of these type people.
