Prosecute War Crimes or Become Guilty of Them

On the one hand, we have President Obama assuring us that under his administration, there will be respect for the rule of law, and on the other hand we have this one-time constitutional law professor and his attorney general declaiming that there is no need for the appointment of a prosecutor to bring charges against the people in the last administration, in the CIA, in the National Security Agency and in the Defense Department and the military who clearly have broken the law in serious and felonious ways. I’ll add one caveat – prosecute or become guilty, as long as you’re not already committing those same war crimes…..which, sadly, Obama is already doing.

One way for Obama to absolve himself of these crimes would be a move to prosecute bush and cheney.   That would be proof of change in my book.

Jones.  You are right on.

I’ll second that one, Cliff.  But, not holding my breath.  In fact, I expect the war crimes to expand even further than they are today…

Michael.  I sure hope you’re wrong, but I am inclined to think you are right.

Funny thing…no matter whose name is on the door…it seems to the “average” person…it looks like “business” as usual there at the DOJ & the White House….see what those who voted for change didn’t get…

What’s to prosecute for – the same things that the previous administration has done, like war surges and bankster bailouts, and the patriot act and the rest?  They’re all just two factions of one criminal gang.

Lindorff  is right-on in his article. Now let us conduct a National Referendum on the question: Should the USA now hold a War Crimes Trial on (named persons) from the Bush Administration? Can we assist the Spanish court effort with a National Petition?

Can we not do this? I am nearly 70 so I do not know  how to post this effort or I would. Maybe a RICO effort here too?

Dave.  Yes we prosecute them just as we would prosecute a speeder even though we don’t prosecute the ones we didn’t catch.  Whether we have made the mistake of failing to prosecute the criminals of the past does not mean we can’t come to our senses and start now.

And LoveourPlanet. I think you have a great idea!  Does anyone know if the public can bring a National referendum?  Somehow I believe that it is provided for in the Constitution “the right to redress”  can someone answer on that?
