When Technology Fails

Rarely in the specialized milieu of industrial civilization does one encounter a Renaissance man or woman-someone who is well-versed in a wide spectrum of disciplines and who can expound upon them in writing that is both articulate and engaging. So when I discovered Mat Stein’s phenomenal When Technology Fails: A Manual For Self-Reliance, Sustainability, and Surviving The Long Emergency, I immediately contacted the publisher, Vermont’s own Chelsea Green, for a review copy of this fabulous tome on preparing wisely for the end of the world as we have known it.  FULL ARTICLE

This day may come.  Whether in our lifetime our during the life of some of our progeny, if it does come, I hope they have prepared.

I don’t really worry about 2012, but as the close encounter with the meteor this weekend reminds, you just never know. Of course the last die off in North America occurred 12,000 years ago due to a comet either crashing into NA or exploding above it.  The next known extinction level Asteroid would be Apopis in 2027 or 2029.  Then there is the Supervolcano under Yellowstone that could run every one from this continent.  And that’s just the natural calamities.

Noting to worry about.
