Involuntary servitude was supposed to be abolished by the 13th Amendment, but things like Selective Service and the income tax make me wonder how serious we really are in defending just basic freedom. The income tax enslaves workers for nearly 4 months out of a year by garnishing what amounts to all their wages in that period of time. A military draft could demand your very life, without your consent. This should be unthinkable in a free society. FULL ARTICLE

I guess the 13th Amendment only applies as long as it’s not against the state. Strange, isn’t it? That the state would approve of laws that its exempt from? How unusual.
Rep. Paul has once again called attention to something many of us Older people forgot. While i do believe in a strong “national” defence ( as in of and for America) so we can secure our borders and ports better than we do now. And Congressman paul is correct that a poor policey surely adds to our problems over seas. If i could, I’d start bringing the troops home…let them rest and regroup physically and mentally then start setting them up along the open areas of our borders (especially in the south) and stop anyone and everyone who tried to come in with out the correect paperwork or visas. And like magic, the border incurrastions from the mexican military or bands of kidnappers, drug runners will not be so far inland as they did in Arizona…but according to my home state Senators & Congressional peoples ( Burr & Hagen, and Rep. Mel Watt & Virginia Foxx) said what i propsed wasn’t “practicle”..of course in some thier minds…neither is E-Verify…but that’s for another time and day huh ?
Steve, some good perspective on this. And think of the economic results too – trillions of dollars are literally blown maintaining this overseas military empire. That’s not defense, that’s offense, and it’s causing more and more problems (both in security and the economy) every day.
Being free has nothing to do with being required to serve the thugs who make up the “state” As long as selective service continues to exist, we are not truly free. And neither are our children.
When he’s right, he’s right. The draft is an abomination, and a free country shouldn’t tolerate it.
Abomination is right! How can we be free if we can be required to kill or die – or go to jail if we don’t want to? That’s the exact opposite of free choice!
