A Short History of US Government Handouts

In America today, they’re called bailouts, but throughout history they were handouts. Some quite generous (though nothing like today’s) and always for the privileged. Never for the public interest or greater good.  FULL ARTICLE

If this is the short history, I wonder what the long history is!

The long history isn’t much different, just adds more particulars.  We end up with the same garbage.  Working people like you and me have a huge chunk of our earnings taken from us through taxes and inflation and given to the politicians and their corporate buddies.

i have to admit this is a good article…and i was surprised that the Alaskan Highway was included…but what was missing from that was the lack of Native American representation with the contractors or laborers when the highway was built…and it is sad…that even today…that NOT EVERY American is or was ever represented in this “bailout & stimulus” packages…yet the fear mongering whitehouse that had bush in there for 8 years and now Obama for 1 month now…and the only change i have seen is and was the names plates…other than that, it’s business as usual…screw the people who are the majority…that both houses of congress seems to have forgotten to respresent…

Really good point on the lack of REAL representation on these handouts, Mr Henderson.  But isn’t that the problem with government in general?   As soon as you give these people all this money to hand out, it’s only going to go to the politically connected, and the really needy always get screwed.

A long article, informative of facts we already know, and don’t attempt to do anything about.

It’s the news of today and yesterday.  Anyone want real change?  Are you willing to make hard choices?  I have had people argue with me that there is only one way to fix all the mess. And then they don’t want to do what they suggest.

There are probably many ways to effect change.  I’ve suggested one way.  Guaranteed to work if the people really want change.  Choose a Party.  Shun them out of existence.  No one can do anything about it if a majority of the people want change and if they chose the same party.

That’s why I choose the Republicans.  They are the last in power group to have had a chance to serve America.  They chose not to.

Be prepared to do this over and over until there is a majority of people in Government who will return this country to our Constitution.

Never vote for a Republican Candidate again.

But never, never, let any Party back in that has been expelled.

Cliff, while, I agree with you completely that the Republicans need to be expelled, I just can’t see that as a effective strategy.  What about all the people out there that believe the Democrats need to be expelled?

i had to laugh at the “expelling” of the Republicans and now the Democrats. Funny thing the only time you hear of change or the need of. for and from change is at re-election time…sadly it would appear that even with only one month into the “new’ administration.we as Americans have heard the new president sound like the old one was for the last year he was in office. Congress (both House and Senate) are acting as if nothing has changed as they continue to Ignore the will of the Majority of the people…i still feel that if those millions of people who were there to see History being made…had turned and marched to the capital dome…and peacefully protested , they would or could have been some real change…as in many members of the house and senate changing thier minds and underwear…then there would have been real change in washington…no ??

It doesn’t matter who is “expelled” and who isn’t.  As long as the power exists to keep giving out these massive handouts, some political party is going to do it.  the root of the problem isn’t the parties, it’s the power – the uncontrollable, massive power – that’s part of our system of government.  That’s why I support so many of the ideas I see here, to reduce and limit their power to do these things.
