If America were infected with terrorists, we would not need the government to tell us. We would know it from events. As there are no events, the US government substitutes warnings in order to keep alive the fear that causes the public to accept pointless wars, the infringement of civil liberty, national ID cards, and inconveniences and harassments when they fly. And so is the bailout, and the stimulus, and the war on drugs, and the war on illiteracy, and the war on poverty and the war on (insert name here)
All these so called “wars” are just another way for the government to increase its power.
The entire federal government is little more than a hoax, a fraud, a gang of criminals.
Maybe a terrorist group hasn’t attacked a “neocon” because of people like Bush. Or maybe we haven’t been attacked because we get our information from so called horrible places like Gitmo, or maybe because the government is keeping us safe from attacks with unknown intel. To say sleeper cells don’t exist in the country and they are republican propaganda is ignorant. Of course they exist. They existed when we weren’t looking and they certainly exist now that we are looking. Perhaps the reason for no attack is due to…I don’t know, the terrorists hoping we get someone in office who is more lax? More willing to turn a blind eye? More likely to let security slip? For the country’s sake, I hope I’m wrong. But I don’t think so.
Hey repub, your tough guy type foreign policy is what drives terrorists to build cells, and eventually, to attack. Read the 9-11 commission report, read Cold warrior, Chalmers Johson, read something different than what you’ve been reading already.
While i like that America has some “semblence” of security, I would agree that the current system of measurement of terrorists strikes is way overboard, but we must never forget that there is nothing but air, stopping anyone from doing anything…cell membership to a cell or not..McVey showed us that. But the real terrorists are the members of both houses of congress. And here we sit on our blessed assurances..and do nothing to organise a mass rally to march on washington..but seeing millions upon millions were there on jan.20th…and blew a very good chance to have and get the house and senate’s undivided attention, the government’s pacification of all of us has worked.Meaning no one here is, will or able to get 5 people willing to get 5 people to form a group to organize a trip to washington to protest. But what do i know ? I new to this form of populism… gee and here i thought i was a small part of We the people last one done here turn off the lights…think green !!
I think Steve Henderson made one of the best points I’ve seen on this blog yet – the real terrorists are the members of both houses of congress.
This is a comment I posted on Common Dreams this morning regarding Obama and Betraeus. I think it sort of fits here, also.
My faint hopes for the new administration is dwindling rapidly. Herr General Betraeus is doing his usual. Obama is widening the war in Afghanistan, a statement that we will strike with impunity into Pakistan (apparently because we can), more posturing and threats against Iran, more bailout of the gambling addicts that run the banks and gamble on Wall Street, lip service, but no activity to help those who have been “Bushed” into poverty, and worst of all a cabinet made up of the wheeler-dealers who created much of this mess, with virtually none of the people that stood up and presented ideas to cure our ills, economic and environmental, being invited to participate at all.
I greatly fear that We the People have gone from being “Bushwhacked,” to being powerless subjects of the new “Obamanation.” I’m in my seventies and oh, do I miss a nation guided and governed by the Constitution and common sense!
I think there’s a lot of us out here that are worried along the same lines as you, Steve.
AMEN
