Michael
You are right about my suggestion being for people to vote as an Independent. My preference would be the Populist Planks but the good thing about an Independent Coalition selecting a slate from the various 135 parties is that the selection would be the choice of voters representing 135 different ideas. That large population ( larger than either the Republicans or the Democrats) would have clout.

And they would also not be as easily "bought" as the two current parties are.

Truckster9 asked a very good question: Why another party, why not placing our energies elsewhere? My belief is that in the beginning we have to have organization to fight the current rip off artists. The reason none of the 135 parties can ever win as individuals is because all their energy is on themselves. They put out plenty of energy and effort but their result is like a rowboat with the rowers paddling in different directions, they're not going to get anywhere.

All real good points. Sorry about being so slow to respond, but I've been away from the house all day. Why Republicans and not Democrats. I don't believe that the Democrats are any better than the Republicans. I named Republicans because they were the last to have a chance to serve the American people. They chose to serve themselves instead. So getting rid of Republicans would definitely send a message to the Democrats. They are in and they will be in for the next four years.

Remember, I didn't suggest standing still these coming four years. I suggested building a Independent Coalition party. This party for two reasons: 1) To replace the Democrats if they don't shape up, 2) Because a Coalition would be more responsive to the people. They would compete against the Democrats as soon as we could get the new Party in Place.

I'm suggesting something to do rather than bemoan our bad luck for having corrupt leaders. Punishment will bear fruit sooner or later.

It's my impression here that Cliff is calling for people to vote for independents. While I personally believe in non-participation, non-voting (unless a nearly perfect candidate comes along), I can definitely respect the concept of calling on people to vote independent.

"It is so very simple -don’t ever vote for a Republican Candidate again. That will effectively end the GOP. But it will do more than that. It will send a signal to the Democrats that these coming four years are not their time at the trough."

What a horribly flawed conclusion. What you are proposing does not serve warning at all. Rather, it provides extraordinary rewards for exceedingly poor performance. You honestly think that voting out the Republicans will show the Dems that you have power over them? Not a chance. When you vote out the opposing party, the victor claims a mandate.

Anyone who says otherwise is selling something.

I don't get why democrats seem to be getting a pass in this article. They're just a bunch of warmongers like the republicans have been. Most of their top people voted for war, want to escalate it in either Iraq or Afghanistan, vote to keep funding it, have no problem violating most of the bill of rights and the list goes on.

What makes anyone think that people like this will suddendly be "good" when they get even MORE power? It's just beyond me.

Of COURSE the democrats are going to be violating the constitution day in and day out. They already have been for years.

There is only one "party" in government today, the moneyed elite party. Running for office is a TREMENDOUS expense, keeping many good candidates off the ballot. Until we get rid of the "career politicians" and put regular people into office we're never going to start on the path to restoring our republic

Cliff, while I agree with you on the destruction of the republicans, I'm still curious - why do you seem to believe that political parties are the solution to all our problems? It seems to me that any time they get big (or even a little larger like the libertarian party), they get corrupt. Is it possible that energies would be better spent elsewhere?
