Obama and Congress Must Act to Restore the Constitution

Obama, running for the White House, initially talked of restoring the constitutional order, and of prosecuting crimes where they had occurred, much as he talked of ending the war in Iraq. But now, as he increasingly assumes the role of President, he is backing away from that kind of talk, with plans instead to extend the war and occupation in Iraq for years, while actually expanding the war in Afghanistan, and to give the outgoing administration of criminals and Constitution-wreckers a free pass, in the name of “letting bygones be bygones.” Ironically, he is doing this even as some in Congress, including House Judiciary Chair John Conyers, who ducked the issue of impeachment and sat on proposed impeachment articles against Bush and Cheney filed by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) for two critical years when he could have ordered a formal hearing by his committee, are now calling for a special prosecutor. FULL ARTICLE

If (or when, for that matter) he doesn’t, will the left still call for impeachment like they did for Bush?  I sure hope so.

How come NO one filed a suit through the ACLU ? Sure someone’s rights were violated? were they not ?  they would have loved to have taken a case like this…that way those who blocked the attempts could have been made to actually give an account not only to the people they represent…but to us…We The People. i am sure the AG office would have a field day calling the white house…asking for help in deciding on hat to do…

Hi Dave,
Another excellent article. I went to the new White House web site and found you could leave a comment or question. Here was mine.

Mr. President, you have indicated a return to Constitutional Government. That must surely mean that such unconstitutional acts as the Patriot act, the MCA, the various spying on citizen acts will be repealed as they illegally set aside the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Posse Comitatus must be replaced so the military can no longer be used against us in the US. Habeas Corpus must be restored. As long as these illegal acts continue to hang over us, we will NOT have a Constitutional Government.

It will be interesting to see if anybody answers. The previous occupant never did. Keep up the good work!

I wouldn’t expect any response from these politicians.  Well, unless it’s a form letter.  Unless they feel their re-election is uncertain, I doubt they have any care or use for such things as the constitution, or any of the other concerns in your comment.  But, I do think it’s important that you wrote it, because it shows people how we’re all ignored by politicians.

Here’s a question for you. What if a number of citizens filed a civil rights suit through the ACLU on the basis that we have been denied our civil rights through the government not allowing us to live under the Constitution.

The government would have to respond to prove that the Constitution was in effect. We would have the argument of the Bill of Rights, amendment after amendment, with the Patriot Act,etc., listed to show that those rights have been abrogated. almost line by line. I wrote several articles to that effect several years ago.

Then there are things like treaties, after ratification being the “Law of the land” vs the unilateral discarding of the ABM treaty, the Mutual Arms Reduction treaty, the Peaceful uses of space treaty, the Geneva Conventions, etc., and torture, etc., ad nauseum.

We’ve got all these damned attorneys out there eating us alive, let’s put them to work!
