Deutschland uber alles

I wrote this on 7 March 2002.  Nobody listened then, and I don’t think they’re listening now.

Well, let’s see now:

America has been betrayed by an international conspiracy of Islamic terrorists and their sympathizers in the United States, WTO and NAFTA protesters, Constitutionalists, and a handful of Congressmen and Senators.

These sympathizers are hard to spot, so everyone must be watched. The government has dug in and decentralized so it will be very difficult to dig out.

The hereditary President, to meet this threat is going to take $1.3 trillion from the elderly to bolster his homeland security and military, so we will have a fortress America to hold off all enemies. The military scientists will be funded to perfect orbital weapons to rain death upon our enemies, whoever they may turn out to be. Homeland Security will be given vast sums to spy upon the citizenry to root out troublemakers.

Let’s see, what are we missing? Oh yes, the terrorists burn or blow up the House of Congress. The President meets the challenge by being acclaimed the leader for the duration of the emergency.

Gee, if we substitute a few terms here, what does it bring to mind?

International Jewish Conspiracy for Islamic Terrorists, Labour Unionists and intellectals for WTO, etc. protestors, Wehrmacht for military, Gestapo for Homeland Security, Fuhrer for President, a Reichstag fire for the House, Festung Europa for Fortress America, and Peenemunde in place of our modern rocket scientists and what do you have? Surely history would not repeat itself, would it?

I think the big difference is that these people provide themselves with a cloak of legitimacy by allowing us to elect our tyrants.  That way, half the population is overjoyed with the new warmongers every 4 or 8 years.   Sure lulls people to sleep far better than declaring just one guy the lifelong king, doesn’t it?

If they don’t take trillions and give it to the war-machine, they take it and give it to their corporate buddies…who are completely clueless about running a profitable business.

Everyone needs to read Stealth Jihad by Robert Spencer.  It really opens your eyes as to who, what, how and when.  Unfortunately, most seem to be complacent not to inform themselves.  There is no defense when one chooses to remain ignorant.

Steve

What an excellent piece.  History does repeat itself if we let it and especially if our Government promotes a repeat – of course for their benefit.  I was recently reading about Kleptocracies and recognized what we are becoming in our own land in our own time.

Steve I’ve been suggesting around that punishment is the key.  A failure to punish the criminal emboldens him to further and more heinous crimes.  I have been pointing out that punishing the individual criminal requires co-operation from the very party who brought the criminals on us and who enabled them to continue.  But punishing their Party is an act that each citizen of America can do the very next time at the polls.  Don’t vote for the Criminals Party.  A couple of election cycles when a broad spectrum of true American practice this punishment will eliminate one corrupt party.  Then we can go to work on the next one.

Cliff: No doubt that punishment is the key. If criminals aren’t held accountable, they (or their successors) just become more bold. And if there’s anything people should be worried about is some future president being even more arrogant than Bush/Cheney have been…

My wife was a teacher. One of the things she noticed in her long career was that, there are no consequences anymore.

When she was teaching, there were rules and the kids knew them. No fighting, no throwing of rocks, period, no disruptive behavior in the classroom.

Fighting, the kids got a time out. Sit on the bench until you can apologize and behave.

“Timmy, did you know that throwing rocks on the school grounds is not permitted?”
“But I wasn’t throwing them at anybody!”
“That doesn’t make any difference, somebody could walk out and get hit, or you could break a window. Go over to the bench and take a time out. Joey, you were with him. Didn’t you know that throwing rocks is forbidden?”
“Yes, but…”
“Are you his friend?”
“Yes, but…”
“Aren’t friends supposed to keep their friends out of trouble?”
“Yes.”
“Did you remind him that he shouldn’t be throwing rocks?”
“No.”
“Then you weren’t being much of a friend, were you? You take a time out, too, and think about it.”

A simple incident, but illustrative of a point. There were rules, and there were consequences. By small incidents like the above, kids learned that they should respect the feelings of their peers, should help each other. Should not break the rules.

If you are as old as I am, you remember Mom asking you, when you had done something thoughtless or rude, “How do you think that made them feel?” You learned empathy. To put yourself in another’s place, to be sure you did not do something that would hurt another, or their feelings.

Nowadays, the teachers do not dare to correct the children or discipline them in any way. It could cost them their jobs. Mom and Dad are both working two jobs to keep food on the table. The kids learn their ethics on the streets, from other kids in gangs. Whatever you feel like doing, do it. Lie, cheat, steal, the worst you’ll get is counseling. Ha, ha!

If you want to belong, you join a gang. If the leader tells you to knock over an old man and take his wallet, or to shoot a rival gang member to prove your worth and become worthy of membership, you do it, with no thought for the other. You watch murderous stories on television and play video games where you kill “Enemies” and “Aliens” by the thousands with no remorse, only satisfaction over your high score.

Not a far cry from being told by your government that you can sit in an easy chair in front of a screen and get rewarded for the number of hits you make on the homes and gatherings of people on the screen. Just like a video game! Except that those are real people, real homes, and real kills.

I’m probably getting pretty far off the track here, but if we don’t learn empathy and consideration for others, if we don’t learn to think for ourselves, we are truly doomed. I hope it is not too late.
